Two hours from now, I will complete all the required courses at the University of Phoenix to earn my Bachelors of Science degree in Business Management. While the last 21 months have provided an interesting experience, I have mixed emotions on the value of the education I have just paid for.
On one hand, having classes designed for adult students is very important. It allows people that work full-time jobs during the day, take classes at night, or even online anytime.
I chose the on-ground method where I attended class once a week for four hours and each class lasted only five weeks. Imagine taking a full semester of class work and trying to complete it in only five weeks. How much knowledge can you really retain?
I also have mixed feelings about the instructors. These are all business professionals with experience in their field. Just because a person is knowledgeable, it does not make them a good teacher. Some of the instructors I had, had no idea what they were talking about. Others taught material from the 1990s and it is 2008 right now.
To give the University of Phoenix credit, I did learn! I learned a lot about different personalities and working in teams. I also learned more about some of the things I had already learned in the corporate world. It gave me the opportunity to take what I learned and use it right away while not consciously thinking about it.
Overall I believe I got what I expected from the school.

I will say that I too have learned quite a bit from attending UOP. There is no possible way to retain all of the information, but if something came out of the 2 years of attending, it was worth it. I would say it is a huge accomplishment. CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations honey!
I’m proud of you (and myself and Jan) for pulling off this astounding feat. And to think, you did it all without opening a single textbook.

Eric, I am so proud of you. I knew you could do it and you did. You followed through to the end and I am sure it was quite difficult between working a fulltime job and getting married during that time. Needless to say I am sure you were quite busy and that doesn’t even count the homework and studying. I am so proud to be your mother. I love you very much.
